Finest Known 1852-O Seated Half--Ex: Benson, Pryor Collections

1852-O MS 65 PCGS. Ex: Pryor. The 1852-O is the scarcest O-mint half, excluding some of the early rare varieties. Yet it remains an underrated issue in mint condition, being considered a High R.7 in all conditions of Uncirculated, according to Wiley and Bugert. This is the only gem certified of this issue, and to date (12/98) is the finest of only 6 coins submitted to both services in mint condition. The surfaces display khaki-green toning over each side with rose and blue hues interspersed. The mint luster is uncommonly vibrant, sparkling beneath the several layers of patina. The only mark of any note is a short cut on the upper reverse just below the ES in STATES. Another outstanding coin from the Benson Collection of Finest Known Type.
