Description

Sharply Defined, Near-Gem 1853 Arrows and Rays Half

1853 Arrows and Rays MS 64 PCGS. A desirable one-year type Seated half dollar with arrows at the date and rays on the reverse added to indicate a weight change from 13.36 grams to 12.44 grams. Very few coins were saved and remain today in mint state, with the few high grade specimens known always eagerly pursued by type collectors. This coin is almost brilliant with just a bit of pale golden-brown patina evident on each side. Sharply struck, there are no singularly distracting blemishes on the piece, just a bit lackluster to merit a full gem grade.
