Description

Lustrous 1853 Arrows and Rays Half, MS63

1853 50C Arrows and Rays MS63 NGC. A reduction in weight to encourage circulation occurred in 1853, with the addition of arrows on the obverse and rays on the reverse to distinguish these from earlier pieces struck at the higher weight standard. A sharply struck and attractive example of this single-year design, with frosty silver luster and faint champagne toning on each side. Its status as a one-year type coin heightens demand and ensures a ready market.(Registry values: N2998)
