Description
1853 Arrows and Rays Half, Near-Gem
Muted Color, Strong Underlying Luster
1853 50C Arrows and Rays MS64 PCGS. While circulated type
collectors will find it easy to locate an XF or AU 1853 Arrows and
Rays half dollar in today's market, Mint State coins that approach
the Gem threshold are another matter entirely. Such coins do not
appear with any regularity, and when they do they are quickly
snatched up by quality-conscious collectors. This important
specimen displays needle-sharp strike definition with an even
endowment of lilac-gray patina. Minimally abraded, the fields are
semiprooflike but the effect is somewhat muted by the several
layers of original toning over each side.Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2003), lot 7808.(Registry values: N4719)
