Description

Lovely 1854-O Arrows Half Dollar, MS66

1854-O 50C Arrows MS66 PCGS. The New Orleans Mint struck 5,240,000 half dollars in 1854. Perusal of PCGS and NGC population data indicate several hundred coins have survived in grades ranging from Good 4 to MS68. The majority of certified specimens appear to fall between the Choice XF and near-Gem levels of preservation.
Light to medium intensity aqua-blue and lavender patination resides in the obverse fields of this lovely Premium Gem, highlighting the lighter champagne-tan Liberty motif. Light golden-gray color dominates the reverse, becoming slightly deeper at the margins. A well directed strike leaves uniformly strong definition on the design elements. A few unobtrusive, grade-consistent handling marks do not disturb. Housed in a green-label holder. Population: 12 in 66, 1 finer (11/08).
