Description

Originally Toned 1854-O Arrows Seated Half

1854-O 50C Arrows MS 64 NGC. With an original mintage of more than 5 million pieces, this O-mint delivery is understandably popular among circulated type collectors. Surprisingly elusive in the higher reaches of Mint State, near-Gem representatives such as this are infrequently encountered in today's numismatic marketplace. The moderately frosted surfaces display gorgeous toning that speaks volumes for this coin's originality. The reverse carries a blanket of orange-russet iridescence that yields to near-brilliance about the upper right periphery. While a similar toning scheme dominates the obverse, electric-blue and pink highlights are evident around Liberty's head. The strike wanes somewhat over Liberty's head and the surrounding stars, although the surfaces are devoid of all but the most trivial contact marks. In sum, a lovely coin that is worthy of a solid bid.
