Brilliant 1855-O Arrows Half MS661855-O 50C Arrows MS66 NGC. This stone-white and satiny Premium Gem is essentially free from marks. The strike is crisp overall, and particularly impressive on Liberty's hair and the nearby stars. Stars 12 and 13 show a hint of softness, as does the eagle's left (facing) ankle. The second 5 in the date appears to show slight recutting on the lower right, but this is probably a 'halo' from the die production process, similar to that seen near portions of the stars. As a two-year type, the 1855-O is sought for New Orleans Mint type sets, and although nice Mint State pieces are obtainable, there are not enough to meet demand. At the MS66 level, Seated halves are rare regardless of date or subtype, and the 1855-O is no exception. Census: 5 in 66, 0 finer (7/06).(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 24JP, PCGS# 6283)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.
This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
