Description
Condition Rarity 1855-O Arrows Half Dollar, MS66
1855-O 50C Arrows MS66 NGC. This stone-white and satiny Premium Gem is essentially free from marks. The strike is crisp overall, and particularly impressive on Liberty's hair and the nearby stars. Stars 12 and 13 show a hint of softness, as does the eagle's left (facing) ankle. The second 5 in the date appears to show slight recutting on the lower right, but this is probably a 'halo' from the die production process, similar to that seen near portions of the stars. As a two-year type, the 1855-O is sought for New Orleans Mint type sets, and although nice Mint State pieces are obtainable, there are not enough to meet demand. At the MS66 level, Seated halves are rare regardless of date or subtype, and the 1855-O is no exception. Census: 5 in 66, 0 finer (7/07).(Registry values: N1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24JP, PCGS# 6283, GSID# 6334)
