On the heels of the plentiful 1854-O and 1855-O half dollars, the 1856-O is surprisingly scarce in higher grades, despite an extensive mintage of more than 2.6 million coins. This piece is highly lustrous and attractive, with peripheral blue, russet, and iridescent toning around ivory centers. Census: 10 in 61, 90 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N991)
