Description
Choice Mint State 1856-O Half Dollar
WB-103, Boldly Recut 56
1856-O 50C MS64 PCGS. WB-103. Boldly recut 56 in the date.
Called R.7+ in Mint State per Randy Wiley and Bill Bugert. The
recutting on this example is substantially sharper than shown in
their reference. An additional stray line inside the lower loop of
the 6 may be a third cut of that digit, or a die crack. This is a surprisingly difficult date to locate in higher grades, let alone the rarity of the variety. Both sides have frosty luster and bold details. The obverse pale gold, rose, and iridescent toning while the reverse is primarily brilliant with a sprinkling of dusky toning.(Registry values: N1793)
