Description
1857-S Half Dollar, AU55
A Conditionally Rare S-Mint
1857-S 50C AU55 NGC. Medium Mintmark. WB-102. Heavy
circulation on the West Coast accounts for the scarcity of the
1857-S half in high grades, even though 158,000 pieces were struck.
Only 16 pieces have been certified in higher grades. The surfaces
are unquestionably original with light gray patina over each side
and an accent of charcoal around the devices and within the
recesses. Both obverse and reverse are sharply and evenly struck,
and there are no mentionable abrasions.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24HU, PCGS# 6292, GSID# 6339)
