Description
Elusive Gem 1859 Seated Half Dollar
1859 MS 65 NGC. A scarce and underrated P-mint half dollar, the 1859 is often categorized with common No Motto issues, but is actually several times scarcer than a true common date. This piece exhibits scintillating luster and is only a hint of rose and golden patina at the borders from full brilliance. Like the other mint state pieces we have seen, the strike is razor sharp except for a bit of softness on the head of Liberty. Population: 4 in 65, none finer (6/98).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24HY, PCGS# 6296, GSID# 6277)
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
