Description

Lightly Toned Gem 1861-O Half-Dollar

1861-O MS 65 NGC. A razor sharp, gem example overlaid in soft golden-orange patina, along with streaky steel-blue overtones on the obverse. Both sides possess a shimmering luster that spills over to the devices, with a couple reeding marks on Liberty's neck and other minor contact on her elbow and leg visible only with a glass. The '61-O is a historically significant issue, being the last half-dollar struck in New Orleans until the Barber design in 1892, and as such it is a highly desirable item for several kinds of collectors. Population: 7 in 65, none finer (4/98).
