Well Struck 1865-S Near-Gem Half Dollar
Rare WB-101, 'Broken Mintmark'
1865-S 50C MS64 NGC. WB-101. Small Wide "Broken" Mintmark.
Wiley-Bugert (1993) assign a low R.8 to this variety (we note,
however, that the authors suggest caution when using these values,
and write that "with time and public exposure, most R values should
decrease"). This well struck, lustrous piece displays dapples of
light golden-tan, and is nicely preserved. Census: 7 in 64, 2 finer
