Description
High Grade "Spiked Hand" 1866 Half
1866 50C MS61 ANACS. WB-103. Errant 1 From Hand. While other repunchings are seen of the 1, the most spectacular is one that protrudes from Liberty's hand, thus the nickname "spiked hand." Very rare in Uncirculated grades and rated as a high R.7 by Wiley-Bugert. The devices are sharply struck on each side and the bright mint luster is only affected by color around the outer portions of the obverse. From the Tommy Dorathy Collection of Seated Halves.
