    1870-CC Half Dollar, VF35
Rare, First-Year Issue From Carson City

1870-CC 50C VF35 PCGS. WB-5. The 1870-CC is the first half dollar delivery from the legendary Carson City Mint. It is also the scarcest CC-mint half dollar in terms of the total number of pieces known. Regarding condition rarity, the closest competitor is the 1878-CC. Rated an R.5 in Fine/VF by Wiley-Bugert, higher graded pieces are extremely scarce and rarely offered in the marketplace. This is a lovely, problem-free, and original example of this Carson City rarity. The surfaces are light gray overall with darker gray accents surrounding the devices. There are only a few small marks scattered over each side, none of which are of individual significance. In fact, the only surface mark that could be used as a pedigree identifier is a speck of (perhaps removable) debris just behind Liberty's ear. Well defined for the grade and evenly worn over the high points. A pleasing and attractive example of this key Carson City issue.
    Ex: Santa Clara Signature (Heritage, 11/2002), lot 7351.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24K2, PCGS# 6328)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
