Description
Pleasing Toned Choice Very Fine 1870-CC Half
1870-CC 50C VF35 PCGS. Carson City Mint commentator and author Rusty Goe minces few words when it comes to the desirability of the 1870-CC Seated Liberty half dollar: "This is one of the most rewarding dates in the wide spectrum of U.S. coinage to own. Well preserved, problem-free circulated examples will always command a premium. [Footnote] One of the Top 25."Goe apparently adds the word "circulated" because there are only two Uncirculated pieces certified, both MS62--one each at NGC and PCGS, or else the same coin once at each service. While PCGS has certified numerous examples of the 1870-CC finer than the present piece, this is nonetheless a Choice Very Fine 1870-CC that is "choice" in every sense of the word. A goodly amount of muted luster radiates from beneath the deliciously toned surfaces, which feature splashes of ice-blue and copper-gold predominating. While there is moderate, grade-consistent wear, there are few obvious signs of contact, and the strike is pleasingly bold.(Registry values: N2998)
