Description

WB-102 1871-CC Half, Struck From the Same Dies as the Three Known One-Sided Proofs

1871-CC 50C AU58 ANACS. WB-102. Recut 71. Slight repunching can be seen on the final two digits in the date. Of more importance to specialists, though, are the die cracks on the reverse: one through MER and another that connects the final A in AMERICA to the upper arrowhead. These are diagnostics that have been seen on all three of the one-sided proofs that have been auctioned over the years. We believe it is a bit of a stretch to call this coin a one-sided proof; however, the obverse fields are nicely reflective beneath rich multicolored toning while the reverse is non-reflective. Sharply defined throughout, even on the uppermost stars by Liberty's head. This should be an interesting coin for advanced Seated Half collectors to debate over.
