Description
Impressive Near-Gem 1872 Seated Half
1872 50C MS64 NGC. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this appealing near-Gem is the great sharpness and precision of striking definition on all design elements. Essentially untoned and free of distractions, although a hair-thin pinscratch extends from the upper obverse rim near 11 o'clock across Liberty's head and flag to end at star 11. Few examples of this issue survive in high grades, despite a plentiful mintage of 880,600 pieces. Census: 6 in 64, 5 finer (2/09).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24K7, PCGS# 6333, GSID# 6290)
