    Description

    1873 WB-103, Closed 3 Half Dollar, MS65
No Arrows, None Finer at Either Service

1873 50C No Arrows, Closed 3, WB-103, MS65 PCGS. CAC. Although the No Arrows, Open 3 variant is appreciably scarcer than the No Arrows, Closed 3 type, both No Arrows varieties are significantly less available than the higher-mintage With Arrows halves. This Gem example of the Closed 3 shows a clear misplaced 8 in the dentils beneath the primary 8. Aside from some pale reddish-gold toning at the rims, the central fields and devices are brilliant-white and frosty. Every star center is sharp as is the strike on Liberty, although some weakness at the arrow fletchings and the eagle's left talon is noted. The eye appeal is great and the surfaces are virtually mark-free, confirmed by CAC endorsement. Population: 2 in 65, 0 finer (11/15).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24KA, PCGS# 6336)

    Weight: 12.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
