Important Mint State 1873-CC Half Dollar, Ex: Eliasberg

1873-CC Arrows MS 63 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. WB-103. Large mintmark, the scarcer of the two mintmark varieties, referred to as the "tall boldface CC" by Breen. Frosty and slightly prooflike on the obverse; the reverse is more satiny and has lovely soft luster. Both sides show light to medium russet-gold color. There are a few minor, shallow abrasions noted on the obverse while the reverse is very choice.
There are approximately ten Uncirculated examples of this date known, including two or three gems. Some recent sales include Eliasberg II (Bowers and Merena, 4/97), lot 2025, which realized $35,200, later graded MS 64 by NGC; Bolen Collection (RARCOA, 11/95), lot 5923, ex: Pryor: 219, graded MS 63 by NGC; and Noblet (Bowers and Merena, 1/99), lot 179, graded MS 61 by NGC.
