Description

1873-CC No Arrows Half, Scarce XF45
WB-101, 1 Repunched in the Date

1873-CC 50C No Arrows, Small CC, WB-101, Die Pair 2, R.5, XF45 NGC. Attractive, golden-gray color covers both sides of this lightly toned, No Arrows half. The 1873-CC is a low-survival issue either with or without Arrows at the date. The No Arrows is the scarcer of the two types, always with a Closed 3 and a Small CC mintmark. Just 122,500 pieces were minted. The Open 3 halves, in contrast, all have Arrows at the date and outnumber the No Arrows varieties about 2 to 1. This Choice XF No Arrows example retains strong definition and shows only a few light marks -- primarily, in the right obverse field. The 1 in the date is noticeably repunched east. A trace of mint luster remains. Census (all No Arrows varieties): 5 in 45, 15 finer (4/16).
