Description
1877-CC Half, Overpunched Mintmark?
1877-CC 50C --Cleaned--ANACS. AU Details, Net XF45. Unlisted in WB. Reverse Hub Variety Two, Normal Date. The Wiley-Bugert reference mentions on reverse die that has recutting on the mintmark. We aren't sure if that is what they were referring to on this coin, but what it looks like to us is that a medium CC was punched over a small CC. An even higher grade example is needed to confirm this possible finding. The coin is bright from cleaning and evenly covered with pale golden-rose toning that deepens considerably around the devices. From the Tommy Dorathy Collection of Seated Halves.
