Description

Exceptional 1877-S Half Dollar, MS66

1877-S 50C MS66 NGC. Type One Reverse. A generous number of half dollars from the San Francisco Mint were produced in 1877 (5.356 million pieces), and as might be expected, a goodly number can be located in most grades. Premium Gems, however, such as that in the present lot, are less available. Much prooflikeness is visible underneath the lush toning that features shades of jade-green and ice-blue on each side. The strike is complete, a feature that is seldom seen on these large silver coins, and close scrutiny reveals little evidence of contact. A top-of-the-line example. Census: 18 in 66, 3 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
