WB-101, Low Mintage Issue
1878-CC 50C WB-101, Die Pair 1, R.4 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details.
AU. Satiny champagne-silver surfaces adorn this well-struck and
lightly circulated 1878 Carson City half. Traces of cleaning are
disguised but not fully hidden by the faint undertones of
cobalt-blue and lavender on the lower obverse. Slight wear on the
high points does not diminish the sharpness of the strike, nor does
the cleaning. Carson City only struck 62,000 pieces for the issue,
leaving it scarce in all grades and rare over MS60. AU-level
examples are highly sought after, as NGC reports only five coins in
Mint State (12/25).
