    Description

    1879 Half Dollar, MS67
    Semiprooflike, CAC-Approved

1879 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS67 PCGS. CAC. Type Two Reverse. Among With Motto Seated Liberty half dollars, the 1879 is a plentiful date, suitable for type purposes. Nonetheless, it is conditionally rare in MS67 and prohibitively so any finer. Recent auction appearances of the date in this grade include numerous offerings of the same few coins. This is a fresh example, struck from an early state of the dies with semiprooflike fields and boldly rendered design elements. A few small specks of amber toning on each side serve as pedigree markers, while most of the surfaces are brilliant. There are no distracting abrasions. This piece is among the finest endorsed by CAC. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 18 in 67 (2 in 67+), 2 finer. CAC: 14 in 67, 0 finer (3/17).

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
