Description

1879 Half Dollar, MS67+
Low-Mintage Date, Sole + Certified Coin

1879 50C MS67+ PCGS. CAC. The effect of the passage of the Bland-Allison Act of 1878 can be seen immediately on quarters and halves. There simply was not enough manpower (or presses) in the mints to strike both the dollars required by the act as well as the minor coinage needed for circulation. The 1878 issue was the last large-mintage striking through the end of the series in 1891. Only 4,800 halves were struck in 1879. This is one of the finest. The fields display the usual semiprooflikeness with pale golden centers that are surrounded by deeper golden-brown and blue around the margins. Fully struck throughout. Population: 15 in 67 (1 in 67+), 2 finer (5/13).(Registry values: N1)
