Description

1880 Half Dollar, MS64 Prooflike
Just Six Finer

1880 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS64 Prooflike NGC. Half dollar mintages would drastically decline from 1879 to 1890, and would be solely distributed by the Philadelphia Mint, with 1880 seeing a total mintage of just 8,400 pieces. This well-struck example shows brilliant silver luster along with notes of golden toning coalescing beside amply reflectivity in the fields. Prooflike examples are seldom seen by NGC; just six examples have been seen finer, making this a resplendent Registry coin. NGC Census: 2 in 64 Prooflike, 7 finer (3/26).
