The Only Certified Deep Mirror Prooflike
1881 Seated Half, MS64
1881 50C MS64 Deep Mirror Prooflike NGC. Type Two Reverse.
From business strike dies, confirmed by the closed bud on the olive
branch. (Proof 1881 half dollars have an open or doubled bud above
the H in HALF). NGC has certified several 1881 halves as Prooflike,
but only the present piece has merited a Deep Mirror Prooflike
designation. Presumably, it was among the first of the only 10,000
pieces struck from the commercial dies. This is an untoned example
with reflective fields and frosty devices. Undoubtedly, it would
have been cataloged as a proof in decades past.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24KU, PCGS# 6363, GSID# 6301)
