Description

1887 Half Dollar, MS65
Splendidly Toned

1887 50C WB-101 MS65 PCGS. A mere 5,000 half dollars were struck for commerce during 1887, since the Mint presses were busy striking silver dollars instead. Philadelphia-area dealers were aware the mintage would be low, and set aside 100 to 200 business examples in Uncirculated grades. Today, however, the issue is very scarce as a Gem. The present example is noteworthy for its lavish toning. Cobalt-blue borders encompass autumn-brown fields and devices. Population: 20 in 65, 23 finer (8/24).
