    1889 Seated Half, MS67
    Finest Example Certified at PCGS

1889 50C MS67 PCGS. The 1889 half was struck toward the end of the decade-plus era of very low production runs for quarters and half dollars. These low production totals began with implementation of the Bland-Allison Act in 1878, an act that demanded almost full attention of Mint personnel to the striking of silver dollars that were required by law. Only 12,000 halves were struck in 1889, and the same number were produced the following year. It wasn't until 1891 that half dollar mintages began to recover to their pre-1879 levels (still only 200,000 pieces struck). This is a radiant example and the finest certified at PCGS (1/16). Strike details are complete throughout. The mint luster is frosted and races around each side as the piece is tilted beneath a light. The centers are noticeably lighter in hue with significant reddish-russet toning encircling the margins.(Registry values: N1)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
