1891 Half, MS65 Prooflike
Significant Field-Device Contrast
1891 50C MS65 Prooflike NGC. The 1891 pulled the mintage of
half dollars out of the tailspin of the 1880s. For the first time
since 1878 the production of halves was substantial; in this case
with 200,000 pieces struck. This is an impressive example that is
brilliant throughout and a coin that displays significant depth of
mirroring in the fields in addition to moderate frost over the
devices. Sharply defined, except on the uppermost stars. Census: 3
in 65 Prooflike, only 1 finer (4/12).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24L6, PCGS# 6373, GSID# 6311)
