    Description

1874-CC 50C Arrows, WB-101, Die Pair 2, R.5, VG8 PCGS. From Dick Osburn's personal collection. A scarce Carson City date and solid collector coin, challenging to locate at every grade level. All 1874-CC halves are the Arrows type, signifying an increase in the standard weight initiated in 1873 from 192.0 grains to 192.9 grains. This is a problem-free example, nicely detailed for the grade with smooth wear and no overly distracting marks. Old silver-gray patina covers the surfaces, which are surrounded by full rims and nearly complete dentils still visible on the coin. Three die pairs are known for the issue, and this example represents the scarcest variety.
    From The Ohio Valley Collection. (NGC ID# 24LB, Variety PCGS# 572221, Base PCGS# 6347)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
