    Description

    High-End Near-Gem 1838 Seated Quarter
    Two-Year No Drapery Subtype

1838 25C No Drapery MS64 PCGS. CAC. The year 1838 saw the last of the Capped Bust quarters, made to the extent of 366,000 pieces before being superseded by the new Seated Liberty design of the No Drapery subtype, which would last only through 1840. Philadelphia would make 466,000 of the new quarters in this transitional year. This near-Gem example displays much mint frost on both sides amid generous luster over surfaces that are still mostly untoned, save for a hint of gold. Few marks appear on either side, and this piece offers high-end eye appeal -- a coin that would not easily be improved technically or aesthetically. Population: 32 in 64 (1 in 64+), 6 finer (5/12).(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 23SE, PCGS# 5391)
