    Description

    1840-O Seated Quarter, MS64
Drapery at Elbow, Small O Mintmark

1840-O 25C Drapery MS64 PCGS. Briggs 1-B. Small O mintmark. A mintage of just 43,000 pieces includes both Large and Small mintmark varieties, with the Large mintmark much rarer than the Small one. While this example is the more available variety, it is rare in near-Gem condition. Frosted, silver-gray fields are deeply lustrous and attractive. The strike is bold for a New Orleans issue, with prominent dentils on both sides and hints of rose and smokey-umber toning at the rims. A few wispy field lines do not diminish the substantial appeal. Just two pieces are certified finer at PCGS, and none at NGC. Population: 9 in 64, 2 finer (9/14).(Registry values: P5)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23SJ, PCGS# 5398)

    Weight: 6.68 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
