Description

Underrated 1841 Seated Quarter Rarity

1841 25C MS64 NGC. While some dates are easily obtainable in the lower circulated grades, no Seated Quarter from the 1840s should be considered common in Mint State. Although not widely recognized as such, the 1841 is just such a condition rarity, with Larry Briggs assigning Mint State survivors an R.6 rating in his 1991 monograph on this series. This near-Gem is one of the finest survivors from a limited original mintage of 120,000 coins. The surfaces are pleasingly toned in warm golden-russet patination. With the exception of star 13 on the obverse, every feature is boldly, if not sharply impressed. Minimally abraded with no singularly mentionable distractions. Population: 9 in 64, with just four finer (2/03).
