Finest Known 1842 Seated Quarter, MS 65
1842 MS 65 NGC. An early, scarce date in the No Motto Seated quarter series with an original mintage of only 88,000 coins. Most of those were circulated and few have survived in any mint state grade, let alone an unqualified gem. This example displays a sharp strike although there is minimal flatness on some of the highpoint details. Original rose-golden and gunmetal-blue toning has gathered equally on both sides. There are no mentionable marks or abrasions. This is the finest example thus far certified by both services combined (6/96).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22DY, PCGS# 5401, GSID# 5112)
