1846 Quarter Dollar, MS65
1846 25C MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1846 quarter dollar comes from
a mintage of 510,000 business strikes. The issue is a somewhat
scarce date, evidenced in part by fewer than 140 examples certified
in all grades by PCGS and NGC. Most examples are in the Extremely
Fine to About Uncirculated levels of preservation. Uncirculated
specimens in the MS60 to MS63 range can be located with patience
and searching, while near-Gems will be more difficult to obtain.
The two services have seen a mere four MS65 coins, including the
present offering, and one Premium Gem graded by NGC.
