1846 25C MS66 NGC. Briggs 1-B....
Description
1846 Seated Quarter, MS66
Sole-Finest at Either NGC or PCGS
1846 25C MS66 NGC. Briggs 1-B. The 1846 date is a
challenging one across all Seated Liberty series, from half dime
through half dollar. In particular, 1846 Seated quarter was never
put aside in high grades, according to population figures from the
major grading services. Heritage data indicate that the average
certified survivor grades only AU50 to AU55. This sole-finest
Premium Gem quarter demonstrates exceptional quality via deeply
reflective, prooflike fields and contrasting devices showing
pleasing mint frost. Variegated streaks of multicolor toning stream
across each side. It is a prize for the most dedicated Seated
quarter collector and an excellent choice for a No Motto type
representative as well.Briggs 1-B in its early-state reverse lacks the noticeable die cuds seen in later die stages. Recutting shows on the top side of the olive branch, with several die cracks visible -- from the underside of the eagle's beak to the wing below, another from ME and R diagonally upward, the second to the edge and then looping back down through the dentils above the last A of AMERICA, and others from the dentils to the two uppermost arrowheads and yet another from the period after DOL slightly upward. This is the sole MS66 at NGC, where the second-finest are 11 pieces certified MS64. The finest at PCGS are three examples graded MS65 (8/25).
