Description

1847 25C MS 62 SEGS. Briggs 3-I Late Die State. Although a fairly common issue in the lower circulated grades, Larry Briggs (1991) suggests that the 1847 quarter is a rarity in Uncirculated grades. An original, moderately abraded piece, this example displays even swirls of blue-green and lavender-pink toning across its obverse. While similar colors dominate the reverse, they do so in a more mottled fashion. In typical Philadelphia Mint style, the strike is bold and the underlying surfaces are quite lustrous for the grade. This is a lovely, although affordable, coin for type purposes, a coin whose reverse was previously unrecorded in Briggs' Encyclopedia.
