Description

1847-O Quarter Dollar, MS62
Conditionally Rare Issue

1847-O 25C MS62 NGC. Briggs 1-A. New Orleans struck 368,000 quarter dollars in 1847, but the Southern mint did not produce the denomination in 1845, 1846, or 1848, and the 1847 issue was heavily circulated, and few Uncirculated pieces have survived. NGC and PCGS, combined, report only 13 Mint State examples. This MS62 displays radiant champagne-gray surfaces with only a few light marks seen under a loupe. Sharply struck on the reverse, the obverse is soft on the stars and Liberty's hair. NGC shows only three numerically finer pieces (3/26).(Registry values: P6)
