Description

Toned 1847-O Quarter, MS63

1847-O 25C MS63 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. Numerous reverse die cracks are evident, as usual for this reverse die. The 1847-O is a rarity in the Seated quarter series, especially in Mint State grades. In fact, Larry Briggs was only aware of one Mint State piece in 1991. Today, it is probably correct to say that only eight of nine examples are known.
This intriguing coin has mottled ivory and dark iridescent toning. Both sides are similar, the reverse slightly brighter. The upper obverse stars and head details are weak as usual for this date. Population: 2 in 63, 1 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P6)
