Rare 1852-O Quarter, AU55
1852-O 25C AU55 PCGS. The bountiful California Gold Rush lowered the traditional gold to silver ratio, driving silver coinage out of circulation. Mintages plummeted. The 1852-O quarter has a production of just 96,000 pieces and many were likely melted by speculators. The present example is mostly pearl-gray with hints of almond-gold. The strike is a bit soft on the upper obverse and lower reverse margins. Lightly hairlined but without bagmarks. Encased in a green label holder. Population: 2 in 55, 2 finer (6/12).(Registry values: P7)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23T9, PCGS# 5420, GSID# 5176)
