    Description

Conditionally Scarce 1853 Arrows and Rays Quarter, MS65 NGC With Rich Toning

1853 25C Arrows and Rays MS65 NGC. Gem quality survivors of this issue are scarce both in an absolute sense and when compared to the number of high quality type collectors in today's market. This is the second MS65 NGC representative that we have auctioned this year. Both sides are richly toned in charcoal-gray shades that give way to lilac and cobalt-blue undertones at direct angles. The former shades are evident in the centers while the latter are more prevalent around the peripheries. All areas are smooth with no distracting abrasions to report. Most extant Mint State Arrows and Rays Quarters are sharply impressed, and this coin is no exception. Population: 23 in 65, 10 finer (2/03). (NGC ID# 23WU, PCGS# 5548)
