Description

1853/53 No Arrows Quarter, MS63
One of the Finest Remaining of Only 44,200 Struck

1853/53 25C No Arrows, Repunched Date MS63 NGC. FS-301. Old tenor silver coins are very scarce and sometimes overlooked. When this quarter was struck in early 1853, it was worth more melted down than twenty-five cents. And that is just what happened to the majority of the mintage. There are few survivors in Uncirculated grades. All of the mintage appears to have had the date overpunched, and the few remaining pieces show varying degrees of the 1853/53. This high-grade example has bright satiny mint luster that enhances the coin's gray-golden and light blue toning seen over each side. The strike is remarkably strong and there are no abrasions of note. Census: 4 in 63, 15 finer (8/13).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 23TA, PCGS# 5421)
