Elusive Near Mint 1856-S Quarter

1856-S 25C AU58 PCGS. Normal large S. Lustrous and brilliant with a crisp strike and a surprisingly unabraded appearance. A whisper of friction on Liberty's chest is all that prevents a considerably finer grade. An 1856 absence of California collectors ensured that most survivors are in VF and lower grades. Population: 7 in 58, 8 finer (8/09).(Registry values: P7)
