    Description

    1860-S Seated Quarter
Rarest No Motto San Francisco Issue

1860-S 25C -- Improperly Cleaned -- NCS Genuine. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an AU specimen that has been cleaned. The 1860-S is the rarest S-mint quarter, even though the mintage of 56,000 pieces exceeds that of several San Francisco successors. For example, the 1864-S has a mintage of 20,000 pieces, but NGC has certified 36 '64-S quarters and only 17 '60-S quarters. Most survivors are well circulated, but the present coin shows only slight wear. The slate-gray surfaces are unmarked though moderately subdued.
