Rare 1860-S Quarter, VF25

1860-S 25C VF25 PCGS. The 1860-S quarter, from a mintage of 56,000 business strikes, is rare in all grades. Larry Briggs (1991) says surviving coins are usually seen in Good to Fine with "some sort of problems." Briggs assigns an R.5 rarity rating to VF pieces. Champagne-gray patina covers this VF25 example. The devices exhibit relatively strong definition and both sides are remarkably clean. Population: 3 in 25, 8 finer (6/09).(Registry values: P8)
