    Splendid MS66 1861 Seated Quarter

1861 25C MS66 NGC. Type Two Obverse and Reverse. These subtypes are identified by vertical shield lines above the E in LIBERTY, and a convex eye on the eagle. The present example perhaps ranked among the first pieces hoarded due to the Civil War, which eventually removed even copper-nickel Indian cents from circulation. Light golden-brown borders frame brilliant fields and devices. The strike is exquisite throughout, and the luster is potent and unimpeded. By the standards of No Motto Seated quarters, the 1861 is available in Uncirculated grades, but pieces are seldom encountered at the MS66 level. Census: 11 in 66, 3 finer (7/06).(Registry values: P2)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
