Description
Attractive 1866 Motto Quarter, MS65
1866 25C Motto MS65 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint coined 16,800 quarters for circulation in 1866. This attractive Gem has frosty devices and flashy fields with areas of salmon patina at the margins. On the reverse, the combination of reflectivity in the fields and the frost on the devices creates a distinctive cameo effect. Some strike weakness is noted in the centers, due to "early die damage" (Larry Briggs, 1991).(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23UB, PCGS# 5468, GSID# 5137)
